Project Overview

Project Overview

Hands Lifting Hearts Initiatives Society (HLH) is proud to launch Strengthening African, Black, and Caribbean Families: Preventing Family Violence through Community-Led Support. This community-driven project aims to prevent family violence within African, Black, and Caribbean (ABC) families, newcomers, and refugees in Alberta. Through culturally responsive education, mentorship, skill-building, and economic empowerment initiatives, we seek to foster healthy relationships, improve communication, and strengthen family units.

Our vision is to build resilient, violence-free families by engaging fathers, mothers, youth, and the broader community in safe and supportive spaces.

Break the silence around generational trauma and pressure with real-world scenarios, reflective check-ins, and culturally responsive safety strategies.

Learn how to spot early warning signs in adults and youth, reduce systemic barriers, and access trusted support systems.

Practice emotional regulation, identify healthy communication styles, and learn practical tools to address family conflict safely.

Overcome systemic barriers and access trusted local resources, mental health navigation tools, and community networks without fear.

Empower African, Black, and Caribbean youth to find their voice, navigate bicultural pressures, and map out safe spaces using growth roadmaps and positive affirmations.

Build emotional awareness and reduce household tension with practical worksheets, daily reflection questions, and proactive wellness exercises.

Create a proactive crisis-prevention layout to track personal warning signs, map out trusted connections, and document emergency safety resources before fear or panic sets in.

Use a gentle word-search activity and playful conversation starters to reinforce positive, safety-centered language and values for youth and caregivers.

Build a shared language for safety and respect with practical vocabulary, guided reflection worksheets, and communication tools for youth and families.

Conflict de-escalation techniques, healthy communication, and effective co-parenting skills.
